Gestural project

Description- in this piece, you see a dlete on man leanin against a gravestone. Also, there is a cemetery building behind him. The skeleton man is also wearing a top hat and has a dog on a leash. 

Analysis- in this piece, the most prominent element is value. You see the building get darker and lighter as light hits it. Also in the skeleton man, to create realistic looking bones you had to use value. Another element is line. Line work is used a ton throughout the piece to create a mysterious look. A principal used in this drawing was harmony. Everything goes together to create a story. You can tell that they are in a graveyard with the gravestone and cemetery building. Proportion is used in he skeleton man. You had to make sure each bone was realistically sized. The scale of everything had to be correct or it would lol weird. 

Interpretation- the story behind this piece is hat the skeleton man had died and come back to life in the form of bones. He is re-visiting the place where his body used to lay. On his gravestone, I inly put the date he was born to show that he is still "alive". 

Judgement- I didn't think that this piece was very successful as it was very dull. I believe I could add more color or texture throughout the piece. Also, a background would have made the piece more interesting 

Fantasy

Description- in this painting, you see a sand hill crane. Instead of feathers for the wings, however, there is fire. You see the bird looking up and flailing his fire wings. The bird almost looks scared with the way his eyes look. You see lots of swift brush strokes and very intricate lines. 

Analysis- in this painting, color is definitely a huge factor. The contrasting red against the birds grey feathers gives the piece interest. You see rythym in the piece as the colors are repeated throughout. Movement is also a big emphasis on his painting. You see the movement of the birds body feathers, the neck of the bird as well as the fire wings. In this painting, your eyes follow the bird going down. You start at the head of the bird then go down and end up at the wings. Texture is shown in the painting through the quick line work of the feathers. Also, the beak shows some texture. Value is definitely shown in the fire as there are a mix of dark and light.  Also the body of the bird has a mix of different gray tones and some cream colored highlights. 

Interpretation-for this piece, I wanted to show am mix of innocent versus dark. The innocence is found in the bird as it's just sweet and has peaceful, neutral colors. Once you get to he fire wings, you get a sense of darkness with the harsh color change and the dark tones. 

Judgement- I enjoyed creating this piece but if there was once thing I would have added it would be a background. I also think if the fire was more realistic or dos it in colored pencil
