Composition Project

Final Piece
Rough Drafting

Description- In this piece, I have two alpacas. The left one is a cream colored with hints of browns and tans. The right alpaca is a darker brown with some highlights. To make my alpacas have a richer color, I chose to use a toned paper. This way, any spaces left uncolored will be brown serving as a skin tone sort of. This also gave a different effect to the colors I used. For the background, there is a dark navy blue to bright royal blue. Both of these alpacas are looking straight forward but the right one is slightly turned to the right.

Analysis- In this piece, I think the most prominent element that I used was texture. This was found throughout the fur of the alpacas. Also I used a lot of colors. In the background, I used different values of blue to make gradient. Another element that I used was line. This was found in the alpaca fur as well. In my piece, I tried to show the right proportions. It took a while to find how far the eyes were, how the face looked and the body shape and how the fur would go on to look realistic. Contrast was also shown in my piece through the bright color of the background to the more neutral alpacas.

Interpretation- my piece doesn't really have a story. I honestly just wanted to make alpacas because I liked the way they looked and the texture of fur they had. If I had to put a story on it, it could represent me and my friend. We are the alpacas. Quirky, in a colorful background.

Judgement- I really enjoyed making and looking at this piece. I think it turned out really nice as it was colorful as well as textured. If I had to do anything to it or change anything I probably would have done the lighter blue in the top and the darker blue on the bottom. Also I might have tried a different color paper on the back to see how it would affect the colored pencils.
