{Description} In this piece, there is an owl perched on a branch. The bird is looking straight forward. The bird sits high and mighty on the branch. This piece utilizes many earth tones and neutral hues.
{Analysis} This piece brings lots of texture to the viewer. You can see texture a lot on the feathers surrounding the eyes. Also the stomach area shows lots of texture. Also shown in this drawing is contrast. The mainly neutral tones of the bird and the branch make the bright eyes and nose stand out. This makes the eyes and nose a focal point, or emphasis, as well. Rythym is shown in the drawing as well. You see repeating patterns of feathers and the color scheme. Harmony is shown in the piece through the cohesive colors and patterns. To get the right scale of the owl, I had to use proportion. Values are shown in the different shades of the neutral tones. There's colors ranging from light to dark which come to get her to make a unified piece.
{Interpretation} There is no real story behind the making of this piece. I like to draw animals with lots of texture (mainly birds). I was reading an article about birds and it got me thinking about exotic birds or the birds that you wouldn't normally think of. I liked the way the birds face looked and how piercing the eyes were so I decided to recreate it.
{Judgement} I really liked how this piece turned out. Although I did not like the cardboard, I liked the neutral color of it. Next project I will not be using cardboard again but it was good to experiment on. My favorite part about this piece is the face. I think it turned out the best. I really enjoy how the eyes stare right at you. If I did his piece again, I would, first of all, use a different paper and try different styles of the belly and branch.
